Hi Bunty2907, Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forums. If I understand you correctly, you have an issue with no sound on the HDMI output after installing Windows 8. I understand that it must be frustrating, but rest assured, we are here to help fix your issue and guide you in the right direction. Have you made any other changes on the computer prior to the issue? I would like more information regarding the issue. Method- Make sure that there is volume on the TV. You can also make sure that the connections are appropriate.
Try connecting to a different HDMI port as well. Do get back to us and let us know the status of the issue by your next post or in case you need further assistance. We, at Microsoft strive towards excellence. Hope this helps!! I am running into the same issue on win 10, it all started after an update I received last night.
The TV in question says 'not plugged in' under audio playback, even though I am clearly using it to view this message I am typing out. My computer was trying to play the audio threw a realtek digital output (I saw the green sound indicator bars) when it should be trying to play it threw HDMI. So I disabled all the devices other than the tv (which btw I made sure the drivers for everything were up-to-date) and I still have no audio. I ran a problem diagnostics and the problem it ran into was 'the device is disabled' I enabled all devices and saw the green sound bars under realtek again. I then ran another diagnostics and it still says 'device disabled' not 'device unplugged'. Yes ive tried other hdmi ports/cords my tv is turned up, so is my computer my drivers are all updated etc.

I've tried googling this topic, and trying to figure out what I need to do or buy just to get my audio to work with my pc speakers. I have a 3.5mm jack from my pc speakers (Edifier exclaim 2.0 pc speakers), and an (Asus MX279H) computer monitor that uses a 3.5mm pc audio input and 3.5mm earphone jack. I'm connecting using HDMI. I tried connecting through every possible way and no sound? The only sound I get is when I plug the 3.5mm cable from my xb1's audio port to my pc speakers and it's a harsh static.

What settings do I use for my Xbone's audio settings when this is configured correctly? I'm sorry for posting here; but I really do need someone with tech knowledge on this. Do I need to buy an audio adapter? If I do, how do I connect it so I don't post another topic here.
