For the best answers, search on this site The only thing that surprises me here is that you got adequate results from your old PC. Colour reproduction between a camera/scanner, the computer, the monitor and a printer are not reliable for anything that needs accurate colour reproduction. Laptop displays are probably among the worst for this because of the compromises they have to make between brightness, power consumption and price.
My best advice is to connect up your laptop to the display from your old PC (Assuming it was a desktop) and do the fine editing on that. For your next laptop LED backlights are better than cold cathode, and the more expensive IPS or VA panels are much better than the standard TN panels.
