Scenario: For whatever reason, you deleted the recovery partition from your 1005HA and are now regretting it. The DVD recovery solution requires a USB optical drive, which you don't have. Required:. A 2nd PC with a DVD reader. USB flash drive (1GB min) & 2nd USB storage device (4GB min). (or your favorite.iso extraction software).
(or any NTFS-capable.nix distro that boots from USB) Steps:. Using your second PC, use 7zip to extract the contents of WINPE.ISO to a folder on your hard drive. For this example this folder will be C: PE. Edit the file C: PE I386 SYSTEM32 WINPESHL.INI: - launchApp AppPath=x: EPCRecover.exe -.change this to. launchApp AppPath=x: GHOST32.EXE -. Use PEtoUSB to write a bootable USB drive. If running PEtoUSB on Vista or later, be sure to run it in admin mode or it won't recognize your flash drive.
Check 'USB Removable' and select your flash drive. Check 'Enable Disk Format'.
Source Path To Built BartPE/WinPE Files: C: PE. Check 'Enable File Copy' and select 'Overwrite Always'. Copy Recovery envir.GHO and Recovery ENVIR.CMD from the recovery DVD to the root of your newly-formatted USB drive. PEtoUSB will have formatted your flash drive to FAT FS. It needs to be converted to NTFS.
In windows, you can do this from the command line. convert e: /fs:ntfs //where 'e' is your flash drive letter. Disable BootBooster on your 1005HA. (F2 on boot to disable it in the BIOS menu). Boot your 1005HA from your flash drive by repeated pressing the ESC key on boot.
If all goes well, Norton Ghost will launch. Copy to disk, from image. Select envir.GHO as the image. This step will repartition your 1005A and set up your recovery partition (with the exception of copying the.GHO image). We'll need to boot into a temporary OS to copy the files. Boot your 1005HA into any NTFS-capable.nix distro bootable from USB.
You should be able to mount the recovery partition (labeled 'PE'). On your second PC, copy the contents of the Recovery folder from the recovery DVD to a second USB storage drive (needs to be at least 4GB). Copy the contents of the Recovery folder from second USB storage drive to the root of the PE partition. (EEE-ENG.gho, ENVIR.CMD, and envir.GHO should all be in the root).
Restart your 1005HA and enjoy:-) Moderator Posts: 2635 Level.
